ProVerde Environmental tests water and soil for PFAS by LC-MS/MS, using EPA methods matched to your sample type and regulatory program. Our EPA 537.1 drinking water testing is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited and MassDEP certified (Lab ID M-MA1155). We also run EPA 1633 for non-drinking water, soil, and other environmental samples. Typical turnaround is about one week, with rush available.
Which PFAS Method Do You Need?
Your sample | Method | PFAS Measured | ProVerde Status |
|---|---|---|---|
Drinking water (public supply, private well, treated water) | EPA 537.1 | 18 PFAS, including all six MA PFAS6 compounds | ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and MassDEP certified |
Wastewater, groundwater, surface water, landfill leachate | EPA 1633 | 40 PFAS | Available now; accreditation in progress |
Soil, sediment, biosolids | EPA 1633 | 40 PFAS | Available now; accreditation in progress |
Fish and shellfish tissue | EPA 1633 | 40 PFAS | Available now; accreditation in progress |
Drinking Water PFAS Testing (EPA 537.1)
EPA Method 537.1 measures 18 PFAS in drinking water using solid-phase extraction and LC-MS/MS. It is the method most often used for public water system monitoring and for checking compliance with the Massachusetts PFAS6 standard of 20 ppt.

Our accredited EPA 537.1 analyte list:
PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, PFNA, PFHpA, PFDA (the six MA PFAS6 compounds), plus PFBS, PFHxA, PFUnA, PFDoA, PFTrDA, PFTA, HFPO-DA (GenX), ADONA, 9Cl-PF3ONS, 11Cl-PF3OUdS, NEtFOSAA, and NMeFOSAA.

Typical uses:
-
Public water supplier compliance sampling
-
Private well testing for homes and real estate transactions
-
Checking PFAS treatment systems (before and after treatment)
-
Bottled water and beverage source water

Reporting limits are established in accordance with EPA Method 537.1 and are stated for every analyte on your certificate of analysis.
Environmental PFAS Testing (EPA 1633)
EPA Method 1633 measures 40 PFAS in non-drinking water, solids, and tissue by LC-MS/MS, using isotope dilution. EPA finalized the method in January 2024 after multi-laboratory validation. It is the method EPA recommends for wastewater and biosolids, and it is widely used for groundwater investigations, site remediation, and NPDES permit monitoring.
We accept all EPA 1633 sample types:
-
Wastewater (influent and effluent)
-
Groundwater and surface water
-
Landfill leachate
-
Soil and sediment
-
Biosolids
-
Fish and shellfish tissue

Accreditation status: we run EPA 1633 now. Accreditation for this method is in progress, so results are currently reported as non-accredited. If your project or permit requires accredited 1633 data, contact us to discuss timing.
Sample Collection and Containers
PFAS are present in many everyday materials, so careful sample collection matters. We can supply sample containers and collection instructions for every project.

-
Containers: we supply the correct PFAS-free containers and preservatives for your method and sample type.
-
Volume: we'll tell you how much sample to collect when we confirm your quote.
-
Storage and shipping: keep samples cold and deliver them to the lab promptly. We'll confirm holding times with your quote.
-
Avoid contamination: don't use Teflon (PTFE) tape or tubing, waterproof clothing, or certain sunscreens and food wrappers during sampling. Avoid Sharpies. Wash hands and wear nitrile gloves.
Turnaround and Reporting
-
Standard turnaround: typically about one week from sample receipt
-
Rush: available on request
-
Reports: results are issued on a certificate of analysis showing each analyte, its result, and its reporting limit. Supporting data, such as QC results and raw data, is available on request.
