How Does Your Well’s PFAS Level Compare to Other Towns in Your Area?
To help you put your individual PFAS test result in context, this summary shows well water testing results from towns across Massachusetts. The testing was part of a statewide program run by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and UMass Amherst-Lowell. Towns are grouped into three categories based on the levels of PFAS6 found in tested private wells:
-
No PFAS6 detected (ND)
-
PFAS6 detected, but below the state’s MCL (safety limit) at 20 ppt.
-
PFAS6 levels above the MCL safety limit of 20 ppt.
For each town, we show the lowest, highest, and average PFAS6 levels from the tests. This gives you a way to compare your own result to what's been found in nearby or similar communities. Please keep in mind that the number of wells tested in each town was small and many towns were not tested, so results offer a general picture—not a complete one. A full table with the number of tests per town is included in the full report. You’ll also find a PFAS FAQ section in the report, with useful information and tips for reducing PFAS exposure in your home.
